Officer delegated decision records details - Contribution to Tour of Britain

Title
Contribution to Tour of Britain
Decision

To make a contribution of £10,000 to the Tour of Britain 2021, payable to Cumbria County Council. Being a decision within approved budgets and delegated under pt 3 Sch 2 b i) 3.

Decision made by:
Deputy Chief Executive
Date decision made:
08/October/2021
Reasons for decision:

The Council has previously provided a financial support when the area has hosted stages of the Tour of Britain. The event showcases the District and supports the local economy with the visitors it attracts. Stage six of the Tour 2021 was held on 10 September starting in Carlisle and finishing in Gateshead. A significant part of the route was in Eden, including pasing through Pooley Bridge, Penrith and then over Hartside Pass to Alston.

Cumbria County Council act as lead local authority with the event organisers principally through their role as highways authority and accrue significant costs. The Districts through which the route passes, this year Eden and Carlisle, have been asked to make a contribution to these costs.

The event supports the Sustainable, Healthy safe and Secures and Creative priorities.

This record will be kept until
08/October/2027
Summary of options rejected

Not to support the event. This is discounted because of the positive impacts of the event.

The wider benefits of the event are considered to outweigh the costs and the contribution is considered value for money.
