Health and safety advice and training
The officers of the Commercial Protection Team are always pleased to answer queries on health and safety issues, and can provide advice and information on a wide range of topics. As well as general advice, officers also investigate complaints relating to health and safety at work.
However, we do not run health and safety training courses for businesses, or the public, and cannot recommend training providers.
Occasionally the Council promote and advertise health and safety events which are being organised by the Cumbria Health & Safety Liaison Group, and may write to businesses suggesting they attend if the subject matter is relevant to them. Previous event topics have included Grounds Maintenance, Better Backs, Manual Handling in Care Homes, Swimming Pool Safety and General Health and Safety Awareness.
It is hoped that the health and safety topics on our website will provide basic information and answer some of the questions you may have.
You will note that we deal mainly with health and safety at work.
If you would like information on other safety issues we will try to help, but you may also find the RoSPA website useful.
The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) website is a very useful site which contains toolbox talks and other useful training information and resources. The site also has areas of special interest for small businesses, various topic specific sections as well as general health and safety advice.
