The Carlisle and Eden Best Bar None Scheme has entered its third year and has seen increased numbers of premises entering the scheme. The national accreditation scheme focuses on safety and customer care and is seeking to find the best pub, club or bar in North Cumbria.
All licensees who have entered have now had their premises inspected by assessment teams and those premises who scored highly have faced a judging panel at Carlisle’s Civic Centre to decide who is the best in each category and who is the overall ‘Best Bar None’.
The Best Bar None Scheme was introduced by the Carlisle and Eden Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) in 2008 and has seen year on year increases in premises becoming involved. The awards seek to establish a standard of excellence within the pubs, clubs and bars in both Penrith and Carlisle: The aims of the scheme are:
-
To reduce the incidents of crime and disorder associated with the consumption of alcohol.
-
To promote Carlisle and Penrith as a safe and professional environment in which to live, work, visit and socialise.
-
To identify and reward responsible licensed premises.
-
To share good practice with other in order to raise standards.
Jane Muller, Chair of the Carlisle and Eden Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, said: “The Best Bar None Awards has become an established event and we are delighted that those who operate licensed premises in North Cumbria have embraced the principles of the scheme to raise standards, promote good practice and highlight the good work of responsible licensees."
The Awards ceremony will be taking place at Carlisle Racecourse on 11 May 2010 and all participating premises will be invited to attend. Licensed premises who are accredited as part of the Best Bar None Scheme will receive a plaque and certificate for public display and may become eligible for significant reductions in business insurance premiums through a scheme run by the BEDA.
