Residents in the Alston area are being asked to put their household waste ready for collection by 7am on Saturday (9 January 2009) as Eden District Council and their contractor Enterprise are attempting to reach more households in the area to maintain a refuse collection service by using a 4x4 pick up to support the normal refuse collection vehicles.
Eden District Council’s Chief Executive, Kevin Douglas said: “We are all pulling out all the stops to reach residents who are having their refuse household refuse collection service disrupted by the extreme weather and road conditions. This Saturday, we are sending a refuse collection vehicles supported by a 4x4 pickup to attempt to clear as much of the backlog of household refuse from the Alston area as possible. If it is not possible for this collection to take place due to the weather we will let residents know via the local media and our website.
“We are asking Alston residents to put their household refuse sacks out for collection at the normal time and would like to thank them for their patience in this difficult situation. We are accepting the use of black bags by people who have run out of the blue refuse sacks the Council provides; our contractor is leaving households blue refuse sacks on a like for like bases on the number of sacks set out for collection.”
