What are Community Plans?
Community Plans, sometimes also called Parish Plans, are a means of a community coming together to decide on what they want to improve or achieve either currently or in the future.
The end result of a Community Plan is usually an action plan that sets out how the Group intend to make improvements to the local area. The actions may be for the Community Planning Group to do or with a partner such as the District Council.
The Council works alongside Action with Communities in Cumbria (ACT), to assist communities who wish to develop their own Community Plan. Communities may wish to write their own plan for their area or partner with their neighbouring areas to write a joint plan. To find out more about how ACT can help you develop a Community Plan, please visit the ACT action with communities in cumbria website.
What will the Council do to help?
The Council recognises that Community Plans contain well researched evidence as to what communities want. The Council will work closely with Community Groups to develop their Community Plans and help deliver the actions within them.
In March 2009, the Community Services Portfolio Holder agreed a Community Plan Protocol which formalised the Council's commitment to those writing a Community Plan. Please feel free to download the document below.
