The Core Strategy is the first Development Plan Document intended to replace the old Eden Local Plan. It is the central document of the Local Development Framework and sets out the vision, aims and strategy for spatial development in Eden District up to 2021 and beyond. It provides the framework for the formulation of the more detailed generic and site specific policies.
The Core Strategy Submission Document was approved by Council in June and was available for consultation for two six week periods running from Monday 22 September - Friday 31 October 2008 and Monday 9 February to Friday 20 March 2009.
The document has been prepared after extensive consultation with local residents, businesses, other service providers and numerous government and non-government organisations.
On Thursday 30 April the Core Strategy DPD was submitted to the Secretary of State for a Public Examination of the 'soundness' of the plan. The submission documents also include: the representations received, the Statement of Consultation, the Sustainability Appraisal Report and various background papers all of which can be accessed below.
An inspector has been appointed and it is likely that the public hearing sessions of the examination will be held from Wednesday 2 September to Friday 4 September and Tuesday 8 September to Friday 11 September 2009. If found 'sound' the Council expects to adopt the Core Strategy late in 2009.
